Directions for Saving to a CD

CD’s are available for Purchase at the Reference desk for One Dollar.
Make sure it is a writable CD. It will say CD-R or CD-RW

At this point in time the computers in the tech center do not allow MS Office products to be saved directly to the CD, instead save to the desktop:

Create your work.
Click on File,
Click on Save As
Point to the desktop:
Click save.

Then
1. Insert CD shiny side down into CD drive.
2. Open my computer; minimize the window so that you can see both the desktop and the icon for the d: drive.
3. Click, hold and drag the file from the desktop to the d:\ drive.
4. Click on the pop-up message that says “You have files waiting to be written to the CD.”
5. Click on then click on, write these files to CD
6. Keep clicking next until finish.

You have just written to the CD. You can continue saving to that CD during that session only. Once you take out the CD you will only be able to read your files from it. You can put much more info and files on the CD

Use the following instructions for Web pages:
Create your work.
Click on File,
Click on Save As
Click on the left icon for My Computer
Click on the D:\ drive
Click save.

What you have just done is placed the files in a holding area on the computer.

Then
1. Open my computer, on the desktop. Click on d:\ drive
2. Click on Write these files to CD.
3. Keep clicking next until finish.

You have just written to the CD. You can put much more info and files on the CD than on a floppy disk.
