Hartford Public Library provides access to a collection of eBooks (listed in our catalog) from netlibrary INC. eBooks are electronic versions of published books that library customers can search, borrow, read, and return over the Internet, 24 hours a day.
netLibrary eBooks are available to Hartford Public Library customers at computer terminals in the Central Library, the nine branches, and the Library on Wheels as well as from their Internet-connected home computers. Electronic books can be checked out the same as hardbound library books, but eBooks are returned automatically to the library collection at the end of the checkout period.
"We are excited to be working with netLibrary to offer eBooks to our patrons," said Louise Blalock, Chief Librarian of Hartford Public Library. "By providing access to eBoooks, we are extending our library's services to those who cannot always travel to one of our branch locations. And, eBooks are available over the Internet even when our library doors are closed."
The Library has selected eBook titles with broad popular appeal for public library customers. Subject areas featured include general reference, careers, business, investing, computers, health, travel and more. Titles featured in the eBook collection include: selections from ABC-CLIO reference handbooks, AMACOM books, Cliffs Notes, Health Communications' Chicken Soup series, Harvard Business School Publishing, O'Reilly computer guides, Macmillan's The Complete Idiot's Guides and SAMs Computer Guides, McGraw-Hill business and computer books, The Rosen Publishing Group's Coping and Careers series, and Scarecrow's Historical Dictionaries.
"eBooks provide new opportunities for library patrons to access and use information," said netLibrary Executive Vice President Rich Rosy. "Imagine being able to check out fiction, non-fiction, and reference eBooks from home at any hour of the day or night. That capability exists today for the customers of Hartford Public Library through its collection of netLibrary eBooks."
