West Nile Virus (West Nile Encephalitis) is a
topic of increasing concern to Connecticut residents. This Webliography provides a starting point for locating information
about this disease and the mosquitoes that transmit it. In 2002,
West Nile Virus was confirmed in humans, mosquitoes, and birds in
Hartford and the surrounding area. Take personal precautions and actions to eliminate mosquito breeding places
(standing water)
and reduce the mosquito population in your neighborhood.
- West Nile Virus has affected more than 60 different species of
birds. This organization advocates alternatives to pesticides,
which, according to the
American Bird Conservancy, are harmful and toxic to birds and
humans.

- Many of us are
concerned about the threat that West Nile Virus poses to our beloved
pets. According to the veterinarians who care for them, cats and
dogs rarely become ill from the virus.
