In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, October 2008, the
Library will host three events. On October 6th from 6p.m. to 7:30p.m.
author and educator Laura Fitzpatrick-Nager will speak about her
experiences as a breast cancer survivor. The following Monday,
October 13th the Hartford Hospital Mobile Mammography will offer breast
cancer screenings from 10-1:30 at the main library at 500 Main Street.
On Monday, October 20, nutritionist, Terry Dumais will teach us about
the key role nutrition plays in preventing and/or healing cancer.

iConn databases. One database specifically for information
on health is the
Health and Wellness Resource Center. The database includes
information on traditional and alternative therapies. Search for
articles by subject or keywords such as "breast cancer" or
"mammography. You may access these articles from
home/office. Use your library barcode as your user id.
FDA fake cancer cures released 6/19/08 lists 150 fraudulent
products claiming to cure or prevent cancer.

support the fight against breast cancer. There are many ways for the
public to participate in events and fundraisers throughout Connecticut.

Women's Expo: September 6 and 7, 2008
will be donating a portion of its proceeds to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
It will be the largest women's expo in the Northeast. You are sure to find

resources about breast cancer along with other types of cancer. There is
information for those newly diagnosed, caregivers and those who have been
fighting for years. The Society has support groups, volunteers who drive
patients to and from treatment, ways to donate or help with fundraising to
find a cure.
Breast Cancer DIY
is a Web site created for women with breast cancer by women with breast cancer.
Breast Cancer Network of Strength was formerly known as the"Y-Me
National Breast Cancer Foundation." Its services are free of charge to anyone
touched by breast cancer. It has a unique 24/7 peer support program, "Your
Shoes," staffed by survivors of breast cancer.
