 The Maltese Falcon

Who murdered Sam Spade's partner? Where is the Maltese falcon? Is Brigid O'Shaughnessy as guileless as she claims? Will Spade risk himself to save her? These are the questions that drive Hammett’s fast moving plot in which all of the shady characters are trying to deceive the others. The dialogue is crisp; the descriptions of San Fransisco’s gritty underworld economical. This hardboiled detective novel intrigued and engaged readers in 1929 and became a classic of the genre. Let the Hartford Public Library introduce you to The Maltese Falcon, or remind you of why you loved reading it the first time.
