The 2003 Connecticut Book Award Ceremony

The 2003 Connecticut Book Award winners with their Woodbury Pewterers lamps, left to right: Poetry, Vivian Shipley; Fiction, Stewart O’Nan; Lifetime Achievement in Service to the Literary Community, Rennie McQuilkin; Children’s Author, Bruce Clements; Biography or Memoir, Bob Smith; Non-Fiction, Robert Thorson; and, Design, Jessica Helfand.  Absent: Children’s Illustrator winner, David A. Johnson.

Richard Sugarman, founding President of The Connecticut Forum, was master of ceremonies for this event.

Stuart Lamson of Bank Square Book in Mystic returned as the bookseller for the 2003 Awards.  Eighteen authors signed their books for guests.

Hartford’s City Hall was the elegant venue for the Connecticut Book Awards again this year.

Chair of the Design panel and Emeritus Advisor of the Connecticut Center for the Book Wendell Minor presented the award to Jessica Helfand of Falls Village for Reinventing the Wheel.

Guests relished a splendid hors d’oeuvres buffet.
