Readings from Language for a New Century: Contemporary Poetry from the Middle East, Asia & Beyond by co-editors Tina Chang and Ravi Shankar, and by contributors Khaled Mattawa, Aimee Nezhukumatathil, Sudeep Sen, and Pireeni Sundaralingam, whose travel arrangements were generously supported by the Central Connecticut State University Diversity Initiative Grant. Hailed by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Nadine Gordimer as, “A beautiful achievement for world literature,” this anthology was inspired by the way in which Western media depicted people of Eastern descent after the events of September 11, 2001. It offers more than 400 poems by writers from sixty-one countries or territories in East Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East. May 3, 2008.
