Using the Library's Computers (PCs)

To ensure fair and equal access to the PCs in our Tech Center, the Hartford Public Library will allow each customer up to three sessions each day.

Our computerized reservation system works with a Hartford Public Library card, or with a card from any Connecticut library when its barcode has been put in our system. As of April 19, 2007 you must have a current library card (unexpired) and owe less than $25.00 in order to use the public computers with our sign-up system. Please have 2 forms of identification with your name and address to renew your card. To obtain a card if you are a Hartford resident, please ask at our Lending Services Desk. Without a library card, users can acquire a computer use only card from our Information Services Desk. Proper ID is required.

There is no charge to use our computers. Charges for printing are as follows: when using your library card the first two pages are free, then .10 per page for each additional print.

If you have any questions please ask at the Information Services Desk.

How to Make a Reservation

You may reserve a maximum of 3 sessions per day.

Use our Computer Sign-up Workstation to reserve a PC.

1. Enter your barcode number from your library card, or scan the barcode under the wand next to the monitor.
2. Click on Accept our conduct agreement.
3. Choose either the one hour Tech Center or 15 minute Express Tech Center.
4. If you are assigned a computer, go to it immediately.
5. Click on logon and enter your barcode number without spaces.
6. If you are placed in a queue, or waiting line, go to the queuing station to your right. (Look for the Big Red Arrow on the column.)
7. Look for your first name and initial of your last name.
8. When the line with your name on it turns orange, you will see a number of the computer you should use. For example, you will see cltech02 or cltech22. Then follow instructions 4 and 5 above.

Note: The last time slot of the day will end five minutes before closing to allow time to print and retrieve copies.
