In July 2008. the Library co-sponsored several food safety workshops that were delivered both online and in person by the University of Connecticut, the City of Hartford Health and Human Services Department and Hartford Food System.  Participants learned the basics of food safety and were eligible to take the certification course and exam to become a Qualified Food Handler.


In honor of National Food Safety Education Month, September 2006, the Library co-sponsored a food safety seminar with the City of Hartford Health and Human Services Department. Food Safety Specialist, Diane Wright Hirsch, RD, MPH from the University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension Service spoke about buying, storing and preparing safe food. An audiotaped copy of her remarks is posted here.

On Tuesday, September 26, 2006 there was a puppet show and story for children on the third floor.  The children learned about washing hands as they listened to the presenter teach about food safety.
