APPLICATION PROCESS
1. Obtain an
Application
for Naturalization (Form
N-400

2. Collect the necessary documents to include with
your application

TAX RECORDS
Citizenship applicants may be required to furnish OFFICIAL copies of
their tax records.
For records from Connecticut Department of Revenue Services, you are required to
fill out a "Request for Copy of Filed Return" LGL 002 form, available at
www.ct.gov/drs . FAX the completed form to: (860) 297- 4929 or hand

NOTE: Turn over time is approximately two weeks.
For records from
U.S. Department of Internal Revenue
Services, you are required to fill out form Request for Transcript
of Tax Return 4506-T, available at
www.irs.gov/formspubs/index.html. Fax the
completed form to (215) 516-2931 or mail to: RAIVS TEAM,
DP SE 135, Philadelphia, PA 19255-0695.

3. Send your application, photos, documents, and fee
to the appropriate Service Center having jurisdiction over your place of
residence.
Connecticut residents send their N-400 application to:
Vermont Service Center, 75 Lower Welden St, St. Albans, VT 05479-9400
The total fee is $675 ($595 plus a biometrics fee of $80)
Applicants 75 years of age or older are not charged a biometric fee;
their fee total is $595. (No fee is required for military applicants
filing under Section 328 and 329 of the INA.)
4. Getting Fingerprints
After a few weeks, USCIS will send you a letter of confirmation and
a letter that tells you when and where you need to get your
fingerprints.
USCIS Application Support Center in Hartford, CT is located at 249

5. Being Interviewed
After several months you will get a
letter from USCIS telling when and where to go for your interview.
6. After your interview, your application for
citizenship will be granted, denied, or continued.
7. Taking the Oath
If your
application is approved, you must attend a ceremony, take the
Oath of
Allegiance to the United States and then receive your Certificate of
Naturalization. CIS will notify you by mail of the
time and date of your ceremony.
8. Obtaining a U.S. Passport
You can obtain a
U.S. passport soon after your naturalization ceremony. A passport serves
as evidence of citizenship and is easier to carry around than a
Certificate of Naturalization. In addition, if you lose your Certificate
of Naturalization, it can take up to one year to receive a new one.
