Sorrel Juice
Contributor: Marvalene Reid
Country: Jamaica

Ingredients:
1 cup fresh or dried sorrel (about 12 flowers)
4 inches, peeled and sliced of fresh ginger
2 cups Granulated sugar
1 cup rum
1 cup wine
1 gallon water
1 cup, doz. Flowers

Directions:
Put sorrel and fresh ginger into a container. Pour boiling water into the container, cover it, and let it steam. After the mixture cools, strain, and add granulated sugar to taste, a little rum, and wine. Transfer the mixture into smaller containers and put into the refrigerator. Serve cool. Enjoy!

Personal Passage:
In Jamaica, the farmers plant the sorrel seed in August. It grows and is ready by November for the harvest. The plant is about a foot tall and has buds. When the buds open, I cut the stem and use the open buds.
