Get help preparing your 2021 Income Tax Return

Hartford Public Library provides tax forms as a service to our customers. 

Tech savvy filers with an annual income of up to $64,000 can file online for free at https://www.myfreetaxes.com/

VITA PROGRAM

Hartford Public Library is partnering with the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to offer free, in-person tax preparation assistance for qualifying individuals and families on an appointment basis.

Appointments with tax preparation volunteers can be made beginning Monday, Jan. 10, at 211ct.org/taxhelp or by calling Hartford Public Library at 860-695-6300. The appointments will be held on the main floor of the Downtown Library at 500 Main St. on Fridays and Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. from Jan. 28 through April 16. On two Saturdays – Feb. 19 and April 9 – anyone who qualifies can visit the Downtown Library without an appointment to get their taxes prepared.

Federal tax forms, instructions, and other publications
are available for downloading and online viewing. (Many of these files can be best viewed and printed using Adobe's free Acrobat Reader.  Download the program and follow the instructions on Adobe's download page.)

Millions of taxpayers are eligible for Free File.  Free File is online tax preparation and electronic filing through a partnership agreement between the IRS and the Free File Alliance, LLC.  Find out if you qualify.

AARP Tax-Aide

AARP Tax-Aide was established in 1968 to help older persons complete their tax returns.  This program is available from February 1-April 15 each year.  Use the AARP Tax-Aide Site Locator to identify AARP Tax-Aide sites in your area.  Appointments are required.
