Lifelong Learning

Learning Express -  Offers interactive learning resources and ebooks to help learners brush up on basic skills (math, reading, and writing) and prepare for college and occupational exams. 

UniversalClass™ -  Offers over 500  online classes facilitated by expert instructors. 

  • Specifically, UniversalClass has been proven to work with the latest versions of most major web browsers, including the most recent releases of the following: Google Chrome and Mozilla’s FireFox (both available free for download at their respective websites).
  • Javascript must be enabled on the web browser.
  • Cookies must be enabled on the web browser for UniversalClass domains.
  • You must have a verified and working email address that you regularly check.
  • If an online class has video segments then you'll need broadband access and an HTML5 compliant (modern) web browser. However, all video transcripts are available online and viewing videos is not a requirement.
  • Any required books are listed in the course syllabus but are not included in the online courses. 

 

RESEARCH

Auto Repair Reference Center - ARRC contains repair and maintenance information on most major manufacturers of domestic and imported vehicles. New repair procedures, TSBs and updates are added to the product on a regular basis.

Consumer Health Complete - This database provides content covering key areas of health and wellness, from mainstream medicine to the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated medicine. Signing in outside the library requires a valid HPL library card number.

Hartford History Center - Home to the Hartford Collection, a non-circulating, multi-media collection comprised of more than 50,000 books, trade publications, directories, postcards, photographs and memorabilia that convey community life in Hartford spanning nearly 300 years.

Reference USA - The premier source of business and residential information for reference and research

researchIT CT allows Connecticut library cardholders to search thousands of databases, magazines, journals, newspapers, and catalogs. Signing in may require your library card number.

Salud en español - Provee un informe sobre salud basado en evidencias de fácil lectura sobre una gran variedad de enfermedades, afecciones y tratamientos. 

World Book Kids - Includes thousands of easy-to-read articles, engaging images and illustrations, interactive games and activities, and teacher resources.

World Book Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos - Offers World Book’s content in Spanish. Key features include search and browse options, dozens of hands-on activities to engage different learning styles, the popular World of Animals feature, and bilingual features including a visual dictionary to help young learners clarify word meanings and grasp complex visual topics in Spanish and English.

World Book Student - Ideal for elementary and middle school students needing help with their homework and research projects. Includes all the articles from the print versions of the World Book Encyclopedia, plus thousands of additional articles, learning resources, and research tools.

World Book Timelines - Hundreds of pre-generated timelines across eight broad topics cover various time periods in history or span the life of historical public figures. World Book Timelines also allows users to create their own timeline from scratch, adding events, descriptions, and media.

Bookflix is a fun, new reading program that you and your child can access from home!! BookFlix is an online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with related nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic to build a love of reading and learning. This engaging resource for children in grades Pre-K-3 will help early readers develop and practice essential reading skills and introduces students to a world of knowledge and exploration.
