New Library Hours Begin September 5

Hartford Public Library will launch expanded hours and days of service on Tuesday, September 5.

The Albany Avenue and Park Street Branch libraries will be open 17 more hours per week, including Saturdays. The Camp Field, Dwight and Barbour Branch libraries will be open an additional 10 hours per week. The Downtown Library will open at 9:30 each morning, resulting in three additional hours per week.

At least three library locations will be open each week night until 8 pm. We will have robust staffing at each location and be able to enhance outreach, programming and mobile services. We look forward to continuing our dialog with the community about the future of library services, particularly in those neighborhoods where service has been impacted.

Library Announces Transition Plan for Blue Hills, Goodwin, Mark Twain Branches

Hartford Public Library will continue to offer some hours of services, collections and programming at the three branches impacted by the new operational plan.

“Together we can continue to have this be a dynamic community space for learning, literacy and all of the things important to you,” said Bridget Quinn-Carey, CEO of the Library at an August 2 public meeting about branch restructuring at the Goodwin Branch. She asked residents to participate in the transition through hands-on help and to work with a facilitator/moderator at community meetings to develop a new service plan that can be implemented when the branches close.

The Goodwin, Blue Hills and Mark Twain branches will have limited hours and services beginning in September through Dec. 31. A selection of books and other materials will remain in the branches, computers, printers and copiers will remain, and customers can continue to borrow and return materials to those sites.
