eBooks, AudioBooks, Music and Magazines at Hartford Public Library are available 24-7, whenever you’re online. Our digital collection includes electronic books, music, audiobooks and magazines that you can check out to use on your computer or portable device. Before you are able to use these materials on some devices, you may need to download software that allows your computer or device to correctly process the files. Please note in order to download ebooks, audiobooks, music and magazines you must have a full-service Hartford Public Library card.

The SimplyE App is the Connecticut State Library’s statewide library eBook platform.

Hartford Public Library App: The Hartford Public Library App, available on Android and Apple devices, allows you to browse our collections, place holds, and download ebooks and eaudiobooks.

Axis 360

Through Axis 360 you can download e-books from the Library's collection that can be viewed on your computer or a mobile device. There are never overdue books or late fees; titles automatically return to the Library's collection after 7 or 14 days. Start browsing our collection here!

Read thousands of e-books and audiobooks for free

  • Log in with your Library card, then create an OverDrive account to borrow e-books, audiobooks, and e-magazines
  • Download the Libby app for iOS, Android and Windows to borrow, read and listen to digital books
  • You can also read or listen to books on eReaders (including Kindle and Kobo), most desktop or laptop computers, and other devices
  • Borrow books for 14 days
  • Checkouts expire automatically

Freegal Music is a download music service that the Hartford Public Library offers, free of charge, for use by library cardholders. Every library cardholder can download 5 songs per week, and stream 24 hours daily. (4 hours daily starting in 2021).

Kanopy is a streaming video service that offers critically-acclaimed movies, documentaries, and foreign films.

Movies, TV series, and Concerts through RBDigital

HPL provides you with access to Acorn TV, IndieFlix, and Qello Concerts. Cardholders are limited to two licenses per week. Each license allows you to watch as much as you like, of the service you have selected, during that week. 

Acorn TV provides world-class mysteries, dramas, and comedies from Britain and beyond.

IndieFlix allows you to stream movies and classic TV.

Qello Concerts offers full-length concerts and music documentaries. There are over 1,500 of the most amazing live moments in music.
